Grace and Peace from the Lord Jesus.
Matthew 8:23-27:
And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”
I love this passage of scripture because it reminds me who is in control. While the disciples were panicking Jesus was at ease and sleeping because He felt safe in the Fathers hands. Now please don’t get me wrong and think that I would be all calm. I think I would be in the same shoes as those fearful disciples. We, including myself, tend to focus on the storm and the waves and such and don’t give thought to who has authority in and over the storm. There was a man who wanted Jesus to heal his son and he pleaded with Jesus to increase his faith. Maybe we need to plead with Jesus to increase ours when we feel out of control and surrender our storms to the one who can calm the winds and the waves. But even if He doesn’t make them go away, we can trust He is in the storm with us. We can have this confidence that our God neither sleeps nor slumbers but is always watching over us.
“What sort of man is this, that even the wind and the waves obey Him?” He is Jesus our Savour and friend and Lord. May we too draw courage from this.
